Rachel in Roses

Hello all, happy August!

After enjoying a little surprise rain earlier this week, we are now back to warm and sunny days here in Seattle. I am drinking it up! I received several shoots’ worth of film scans back in the last few days so I have plenty of editing to do and I am stoked to settle into it.

In the meantime, business-wise, I’ve been continuing to work on my SEO and I am about to have some new biz cards and stickers printed (for the first time since before the pandemic!). I will be eager to show them off so I’ll definitely share a snapshot in a future newsletter once they arrive. And then this upcoming Saturday I have the biggest wedding I have shot all year so far, and I can’t wait. It’s going to be a beautiful weekend.

This week I wanted to share a fun little shoot I did recently with my friend and collaborator Rachel Koszka. I set up this shoot because I wanted to spend some time intentionally practicing shooting Kodak Gold 200 film; I just haven’t shot on it nearly as much as my go-to stock, Portra 800, and I would like to build my confidence with it. It is really stunning for certain situations—namely, very sunny ones! We found the most beautiful rose bush which turned out to be a “Multiflora rose” also known as a Japanese rose or Rambler rose. The smell was INCREDIBLE. And the photos came out lovely as well!

It had been so long since the last time Rachel and I shot and it was so nice to create art together again! As I sit here co-working with another talented artist friend, Claire Donaldson, I can’t help but reflect on the beautiful web of artists I am connected to in this city. I am feeling especially inspired and grateful today for all the life-giving creativity that surrounds me.

I hope you have a beautiful end of your week, and I will be back mid-August with more new photos and updates!

Until next time,
Holly
